I felt like I was being a bit harsh critiquing the New Orleans Breakers in last week’s article on their week 6 game, but after thoroughly establishing a strong losing streak, I no longer feel that way in week 7. The Breakers had a clear pathway to winning the Southern Division and entering the playoffs; this is hardly a guarantee now. They are currently in the third slot in the vision.

New Orleans isn’t alone in this losing streak; the North is led by the Philadelphia Stars at 4-3. Every other Northern team has lost four or more games. But the Breakers aren’t in the North, and one division’s failure doesn’t excuse any poor performance on the field.

New Orleans Breakers Fall To The Stallions In Week 7

In week 7 of the USFL season, the New Orleans Breakers maintained their losing streak in their game against the Birmingham Stallions, losing by four points.

The 24-20 win for the Stallions awarded them the number one slot in the South Division.

The Stallions were the bane of New Orleans existence last season, and it seemed like it could happen the same way this season. The Breakers faked us out earlier this season by trouncing Birmingham 45-31 in April, but Saturday’s week 7 game shows the Stallions still have the upper hand.

New Orleans Breakers Week 7 Studs And Duds:

Studs:

Jarey Elder creamed the Stallions dud of the day, Adrian Harding, in a beautiful fumble recovery.

Honorable mentions go to McLeod Bethel-Thompson’s throw to Lee Morris, which awarded the Breakers a touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Sage Surratt also secured New Orleans a two-point conversion, always a tough play to make. It was good to see Morris and Surratt shine again in the Week 7 game.

Duds:

The O-line. Consistently McLeod Bethel-Thompson has been sacked more than potatoes this week and last. Bethel-Thompson isn’t doing everything he needs to be doing, but not being pounded into the dirt would increase his chances of making more successful throws. We saw that, when given the opportunity, McLeod did take advantage of good plays when he wasn’t eating dust in week 7.

Birmingham Stallions Week 7 Studs And Duds:

Studs:

The clear studs of the Week 7 game were Vontae Diggs and Ricky Person Jr., more specifically, their touchdown dances. Vontae entertained us with his rendition of “The Carlton,” and Ricky had us going down the stream with him as he rowed his way to touchdown town.

Dud:

Adrian Harding wins dud of the day for fumbling the ball and handing the New Orleans Breakers a field goal in the third quarter.

Looking Forward:

Any game is a toss-up for the New Orleans Breakers at this point. They have almost lost as much as they’ve won at the end of week 7. We have three more redemptive games against the Michigan Panthers, the Memphis Showboats, and the Houston Gamblers in June. The Breakers are capable of winning all three games, but will they? It’s hard to tell at this point.
