Hey Syracuse fans, it’s now time to add some new faces to help out the existing squad. The coaches have been very busy the last couple of weeks in talks with certain players that could just do that.

Let’s take a look at the six players who could help out this year’s team.

1. Braden Davis (Transfer QB) – South Carolina

When original backup quarterback Justin Lamson announced he was going to hit the transfer portal and leave Syracuse, this shocked many reporters and writers as he was just here taking starter reps in the Syracuse Spring game. He is now with the Stanford Cardinal, looking to compete for the starting job.

Meanwhile, another former backup quarterback, Jacobian Morgan, just transferred to a popular HBCU school, Jackson State.

At 6′ 5″, 195 lbs., Davis redshirted last year while at the University of South Carolina. He will have four years of eligibility to grow into his tall frame.  Right now, he will back up Garrett Shrader and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson.

The object is to have the dual-threat quarterback compete for the starting job next year if Shrader is expected to declare for the 2024 NFL draft. He will likely battle with Del Rio-Wilson, or another added quarterback via a recruit, a JUCO quarterback, or another transfer.

2. Berry Buxton III (JUCO DB) – Santa Barbara City College

If you know how Syracuse football likes to recruit under Dino Baber’s staff, they like to recruit their seasoned JUCO or Junior College players. They were able to snag a great prospect in (DB) Berry Buxton III out of Santa Barbara City College in California.

There he enjoyed two great seasons, and it was so good he received an offer from Syracuse. Shortly after, he announced on Twitter that he committed.

The 6′ 2″, 195 lb. defensive back has a younger brother named Isaiah. Isaiah is a high school recruit cornerback in the class of 2024 who is rated three stars.

He plays more like a four or five star athlete as he has an offer from Syracuse as well. He also has interests from other power five schools like Penn State, Colorado, University of Washington, and more.

He attends Mater Dei Catholic high school in Chula Vista, California; the school has produced NFL draft picks like; Osiris, and Equanimous, Amon-Ra, St. Brown, and the No. 1 overall Draft pick in 2023, (QB) Bryce Young. If the Cuse snags Isaiah, this would be a gem recruit by Babers and the Orange staff, without a doubt.

3. David Wohlabaugh Jr. (Transfer OL) – Kentucky

For old-school SU fans who remember this young man’s father, David Woholabaugh Sr., who played for your Orange back in the Paul Pasqualoni days or the “Glory Days of Orange Football,” please welcome the next generation, Mr. David Wohlabaugh Jr.

Wohlabaugh Jr. is a big o-lineman at 6’6″, 321 lbs., who was playing for coach Mark Stoops the last two years at the University of Kentucky. He played in ten games blocking, for now, Tennessee Titans’ second-round draft pick, Will Levis.  Now, he will be protecting potential 2024 draft pick Garrett Shrader at the Carrier Dome.

After his father, David Sr., enjoyed a successful career playing for Cuse under Pasqualoni, he was selected in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he was there for nine years. He then had two stops; one with the Cleveland Browns and the other with the St. Louis Rams.

Last week, David Sr. being a native of Hamburg, NY, learned that he was going to be inducted into the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame.  To keep the sports theme going in the family, Jack, David Jounior’s brother, played center at Duke for four years (2018-2021).

4. Jakobie Seabourn (JUCO DB) – Santa Barbara City College

At 6’3″, 205 lbs., the Houston Texan born played safety at Santa Barbara City College and participated in 18 games. He collected 50 tackles, half a sack, and two picks in two years.

Seabourn was a sought-out JUCO prospect who was offered by many big schools but chose Syracuse to play for with their 3-3-5 defensive scheme. He received more D1 bids from programs like; LSU, Oregon State, Utah State, plus many more.

Look for Seabourn to get some early playing time as a slick defensive back supporting the defense.

Former Staples High School WR Nick Armentano (23) – Chris Greer/westportjournal.com

5.  Nick Armentano (Walk-On WR) – Staples High School/IMG Academy (Post Grad)

The SU football team welcomed preferred walk-on pass catcher Nick Armentano as a camp body with a shot to prove to the guys he can be a useful asset to the team. Armentano started his high school career at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut, and transferred to IMG Academy for his post-grad season.

While he may have a small frame at 5’8″, 176 lbs., he has world-class speed, as he ran the forty-time in 4.4 seconds and is a perfect fit in this very fast-paced up-tempo scheme.

Right now, he would be a great kick returner, but he still needs to improve on becoming a more polished receiver. Still, his potential for Syracuse Orange Football is through the roof.

6. Jalil Martin (Transfer DB) – Nebraska

At 6′ 3″, 200 lbs21., Jalil Martin is transferring to Syracuse after one freshman year with Nebraska in 2022, where he did not play in one game with the Cornhuskers. He also had offers from Boston College, Colorado, and Illinois, as well as others.

Martin will reunite with (Positions Coach), Travis Fisher. Fisher was hired by Coach Babers from the Cornhuskers in early February after nearly ten years with Nebraska.

When the highly ranked defensive back was in high school at Kenwood Academy, Martin guided the squad to a city title and a showing into the Illinois state playoff in his senior year. The former Chicago native was named a Class 6A All-State selection after making 27 tackles, one pick, and defending six passes.
