The New York Jets were grounded in their Week 9 home matchup against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers, losing 27-6. Zach Wilson and the Jets are now 4-4 in the season and 3rd in the AFC East. The New York Jets’ offensive struggles from Week 8 continued in Week 9 as Head Coach Robert Saleh acknowledges their offense unit is underperforming despite multiple opportunities to score in the red zone. It was a defensive display on Monday night by the Chargers and Jets, as both teams totaled 461 yards of offense in Week 9.
New York Jets Slay
Greg “the Leg” Zuerlein slays in Week 9 against the Chargers, accounting for the 6 total points the Jets scored on Sunday. Zuerlein was perfect once again, connecting on two field goals with his longest kick going for 47 yards. Zuerlein continues to play at a high level for this sluggish New York Jets offense but should continue to see plenty of opportunities to remain a fantasy league asset.

The Jets’ defensive unit slays in their Week 9 matchup despite allowing the Chargers to score 27 points. The Jet’s defensive group allowed a total of 191 yards, 107 passing, and 84 rushing yards to a potent Chargers offense. Elite performances from Jets DT Quinton Jefferson 1 sack, DE Bryce Huff 1.5 sacks, DE John-Franklin Myers 1 sack, LB Jermaine Johnson 0.5 sacks, DT Solomon Thomas 0.5 sacks, and Will Mcdonald 0.5 sacks held Chargers QB Justin Herbert to a career-low in passing yards. Despite the offensive woes, the New York Jets defensive unit remains a must-start in fantasy in their Week 10 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Chargers RB Austin Ekeler had a solid outing against a tough Jets defense in Week 9, with 47 rushing yards on 16 carries with an additional 23 receiving on 2 receptions. Ekeler was limited on the ground and air game but was able to reach the endzone with a 1-yard run in the 1st half and a 2-yard run in the 4th to secure the Chargers victory in Week 9. Ekeler is a fantasy force and should remain a top 10 in fantasy leagues.

WR Derius Davis slays in Week 9 against the Jets, returning an 87-yard punt to begin the game. Davis slipped through a Jets special teams unit almost untouched, setting the tone for the Chargers’ offensive blowout.
The Chargers defense played against the Jets in Week 9, sacking QB Zach Wilson 8 times on Monday night. DE Joey Bosa flashed his value with 2.5 sacks, accompanied by LB Khalil Mack with 2.0 sacks, LB Tuli Tuipulotu with 2.0 sacks, Safety Dean Marlowe with 1 sack, and DE Morgan Fox with 0.5 sacks. The Chargers feasted on the vulnerable Jets offensive line, allowing 6 points on two goals. The Chargers face a tougher challenge in Week 10 against the Lions.
New York Jets Bomb
The New York Jets QB Zach Wilson bombs in Week 9 despite passing for 263 yards, completing 33 of 49 attempts and zero touchdowns against a vulnerable Chargers defense. The Jets’ offense was terrible in Week 9, averaging 3.5 yards per play. Zach Wilson was inefficient, completing 3 of 17 3rd down conversions in Week 9, a trend that limits the Jets red zone opportunities. Wilson remains an undesirable fantasy player. Although Wilson’s Week 9 performance was not terrible, Wilson’s offensive struggles will continue to impact Gotham City’s playoff hopes.

Charger QB Justin Herbert’s Week 9 performance marked a career-low in passing yards 136, completing 16 passes on 30 attempts and no touchdowns. Hebert was sacked 5 times, unable to escape the Jets’ dominant defense the entire night. Herbert was able to secure a victory with no interceptions despite a tough Week 9 matchup, and he remains a top quarterback in his Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
The New York Jets will continue to start Zach Wilson under center despite another uninspiring performance against Justin Herbert and the Chargers in Week 9. The Jets face the 4-5 Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10, a vital game for both teams, who are 3rd in their divisions. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniel was fired last week after players expressed their frustration in a team meeting with front-office staff in attendance. Regardless, the NY Jets have a daunting task to overcome an inspired Raiders team in Week 10 in the desert.
