Does the New Orleans Breakers team have studs and duds this week? Not particularly, no. The team is a dud. We replaced our winning streak with a losing one and lost to the Philadelphia Stars on May 21st. At least the Stars have studs and duds.
New Orleans Breakers Studs And Duds
We will have to dig deep here because it would be difficult to point out individual studs or duds in what feels like a momentous downturn in the momentum the team had at the beginning of the season.
Studs
Wide receiver Johnnie Dixon won stud of the day for the New Orleans Breakers because he got the team their only touchdown of the game. Dixon also helped Bethel-Thompson get to the red zone in the third quarter, along with wide receiver Dee Anderson. It didn’t result in a TD, but it was close, and for this team this week, that makes you stud status.
Honorable mentions go to cornerback Alex Thomas, who picked Cookus’ throw and nearly made a pick 6 in the 4th quarter, being ruled down at New Orleans’ two-yard line.
Duds
Although picking this one is tough this week, I am going to call out our QB. McLeod Bethel-Thompson’s pass being picked in the first half led to the Stars’ securing a lead they kept. Obviously, a quarterback can’t be blamed for everything, but he had a helping hand in the turnover of downs and plays stalling. Fans and players alike look up to our fearless leader, and we were let down.
Philadelphia Stars Studs And Duds
The Stars are studding, and not so much dudding.
The stud of the week for the Stars (and possibly the whole game) was a bit of a toss-up but ultimately went to cornerback Amani Dennis. McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw a pass on third-and-seven on the Stars’ 39-yard line. Dennis not only picked the ball; he also ran the pick 72 yards for a pick 6.
Amani helped create a bigger lead between the New Orleans Breakers and the Philadelphia Stars (13-0), a lead that, ultimately, the Breakers were unable to overcome.
Duds
Terry Wright wins the dud award for the Philadelphia Stars for week 6. Poise and restraint are critical for everyday life; they are no less important on the gridiron. It can be difficult to handle big feelings in a game where tensions are high, and Terry clearly has room for personal growth in this area. Wright was ejected from the game after throwing a punch. This lack of emotional regulation earned Terry Wright the Stars’ dud of the day on May 21st.
Philly could work on tightening up their rule-following skills. They may have won the game, but they also got multiple penalties. The Breakers are not infallible in this area, but it was clear the Stars were struggling to play nice.
