In the USFL, the New Orleans Breakers are the only undefeated team. The Stallions are not far behind at (3-1), but the Breakers have been able to maintain their lead with their 4-0 record.
USFL Games So Far
In the Breakers’ season debut, they mauled Pittsburg with a 15-22 win on April 16th.
The Gamblers lost their bet and succumbed to New Orleans, who won 31-38 on April 22nd.
New Orleans stampeded the Birmingham Stallions, throttling their top division rivals with a 45-31 win on April 29th.
On May 7th, the Breakers commanded the game against the New Jersey Generals in a 20-17 win.
Some names consistently running the roost have been QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson leading in passing yards, RB Wes Hills and RB Anthony Jones leading in rushing yards, and TE Sage Surratt and WR Lee Morris leading in receiving yards.
Looking Forward
New Orleans has six more games in the regular USFL season. All signs indicate that they will finish the season strong, but let’s look at their remaining opponents.
On Mother’s Day, New Orleans will almost certainly break the Memphis Showboats in honor of all the mothers out there. They will be playing in their home stadium in Birmingham, Alabama, at 2 p.m. CDT.
On May 21st, the Breakers will bring the Philadelphia Stars a little closer to Earth. They will play at Ford Stadium in Detroit at 11 a.m. CDT.
Facing off with their strongest opponents in the USFL, the Birmingham Stallions, New Orleans will be playing at both teams’ home stadiums in Birmingham, AL, on the 27th at 3 PM CDT. Thankfully, their stiffest competition comes relatively early in their schedule, and the team will still be fresh and healthy.
The Michigan Panthers will fly into Birmingham, AL, to play against the Breakers on June 4th at 3 PM CDT. If their record is any indication of their future games, they will go home broken by New Orleans.
It’s hard to say that any game is a sure win; the NFL has had so many upsets that they almost aren’t even upsetting anymore, but the Breakers look like they will skate to victory with an easy ending to their schedule.
First off, they will face the Showboats again on June 10th at 2 PM CDT, this time in their opponent’s territory at the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, TN.
The following week, New Orleans won’t be traveling far again; they will be back in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, competing against the Houston Gamblers on June 18th at 3 PM CDT.
Let’s go, New Orleans Breakers! This is your year to knock it out of the park!
