After a disappointing loss to Ole Miss on the road last week, LSU will be looking to bounce back against Missouri. LSU will be facing off against a Missouri team that is riding all of the momentum of an undefeated season and currently ranked in the top 25 at the No. 21 spot. The defense will once again be challenged as the Missouri offense has been able to find its rhythm. The matchup between the Tigers and Tigers is set up to be a high-scoring shootout in Columbia on Saturday morning.

LSU’s Defense Continues to be a Problem:

Three things that went wrong for the LSU defense in 55-49 loss to Ole Miss

LSU LB Greg Penn III (30) – LSU Reveille

The LSU defense continues to be a problem after a 55-49 loss against Ole Miss in week five. The loss handed the Tigers their second loss of the season heading into the month of October, and any thoughts of making the College Football Playoff are dashed. LSU’s defense gave up 706 yards of total offense to the Rebels, and they couldn’t make a stop when they needed to.

The play of the defense has overshadowed how well the offense has been playing this season, especially quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels continues to elevate his status every week, and it is right up there with some of the best college football quarterbacks this season. The LSU wide receiver group continues to be a strong suit for this team, as Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers had over 100 yards receiving against the Ole Miss defense. The Tigers have also been able to find their RB1 as Logan Diggs continues to be impressive in his first year with the purple and gold.

Of how bad of a loss it was against Ole Miss, especially when you score 49 and end up losing, the Tigers are looking to turn the page. LSU will be facing off against a Missouri team that is right there in the SEC East discussion. Once again, LSU will have to get up early for this game as kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

The last time LSU had an 11 a.m. kickoff was earlier this season on the road in Starkville against Mississippi State. The Tigers were able to take care of business as their offense was humming all game. Brian Kelly will be hoping for more of the same as LSU will be looking to come away with a victory before they return home for a clash against Auburn and Army before the bye week.

Missouri has been flying under the radar in the SEC as they sit at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Missouri is coming off a 38-21 win over Vanderbilt in week five. The Tigers’ most notable win came in week three when they knocked off No. 15 Kansas State in Columbia. Harrison Mevis drilled a 61-yard field goal to complete the upset. Starting in week six, we will find out if Missouri will be able to stay in the SEC East race as they start a stretch by facing off against LSU, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Missouri’s defense comes into this matchup against LSU, allowing 20.2 points per game and 317 yards per game. The Missouri defense will have its biggest challenge yet, as LSU’s offense is averaging 40 points per game and over 500 total yards of offense per game. Missouri was able to hold Vanderbilt to seven points in the first three quarters of the game, but the Commodores’ offense was able to chip into the lead into the fourth quarter.

On the other side of the ball, Missouri is led by quarterback Brady Cook. Cook had a slow start to the season, but he is starting to play to his potential as of late. Cook has to be feeling confident heading into this matchup, especially with how LSU’s defense has been playing as of late. Other notable playmakers that will be challenging to go up against are running back Cody Schrader and wide receiver Luther Burden III. With the way that these offenses have been rolling, expect another high-scoring shootout in this SEC clash in week six.

Prediction: Missouri 38, LSU 35
