The Texans have had a sweeping offseason. Not only have they made multiple acquisitions in the draft but they were active on the trade market and in Free Agency. The Texans also have hired a whole new coaching staff, one that the front office has manifested since Bill O’Brien’s firing in 2020. They have made a slew of impactful offseason additions to help this team be better in 2023.

Houston Texans’ Biggest Offseason Addition

The team added to its wide receiver room with the signings of Veteran receivers Robert Woods and Noah Brown. Robert Woods has been a lead receptions getter in almost every offense he’s played in and has been super reliable when he’s on the field. Noah Brown this past year was a staple of the Cowboys offense and was a well-liked Reciever by the front office for many years.

The team bolstered its offensive line room with the trade and subsequent extension of guard Shaq Mason from Tampa Bay. Mason will help a weak offensive line protect the young rookie Quarterback that the team has starting under center this year. Mason also has ties to New England where Caserio worked for so many years.

Tight End Dalton Schultz was also added on a one-year deal. Schultz was a safety blanket for Quarterback Dak Prescott and was also valuable in his own right. The Texans are hoping that Schultz can do the same for their Quarterback. He is projected to be a safe option to be found in all areas of the field, including the endzone.

Despite these additions and staff turnover, there was one position that the Texans needed most, a position that dictates whether you win or don’t win in the National Football League:

Quarterback.

Quarterback has been a desperate need since the Trading of former Franchise Quarterback Deshaun Watson to Cleveland. The team received a haul for Watson and prepared to use those picks in the future. But with the second pick in the draft the Texans got the pick naturally, despite smoke being in the air that the team was going to pass on a Quarterback they made the easy and smart decision to draft a quarterback. Taking the second Quarterback off the board, the team selected Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud.

Both the organization and the league have high hopes for the rookie quarterback. The team feels it has done enough in the first year to surround him with enough talent to ease his transition into the league. Stroud figures to be a much stronger option than Davis Mills. Stroud also has all the more tools than Mills and is most likely a better play caller and system. With the hiring of Bobby Slowik from San Francisco the Kyle Shannahan system figures to do wonders for the Quarterback and the offense.

A Quarterback is needed for any team to be successful in this league and the Texans have sort of been winging it the past two years. The addition of Stroud will prove vital for the success of the organization and will hang heavy on the shoulders of many people inside the organization. Last year the team was ranked almost dead last in Quarterback stats and surely the team doesn’t figure to be there this year and the years beyond.

Now, the Quarterback will struggle but the team should 100% stick with his struggles and see him through. What else are they going to do? This is their investment and their go for broke with who they think can lead the team to the promised land. Stroud will be fine and he will help this team win games not only this year but years beyond.
