5 more Gators enter Transfer Portal

The Florida Gators saw five more players enter the transfer portal ahead of its officially closing on January 3rd.

Nickel cornerback Jaydon Hill, offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua, and LB Scooby Williams, safety Miguel Mitchell, and cornerback Jalen Kimber, all five of which being starters for the Gators either most of or a majority of the 2023 season, have all entered their names into the transfer portal.

CB Jaydon Hill

Florida Gators starting safety Jaydon Hill has officially entered his name into the transfer portal.

Hill started at the STAR position for the Gators in 11 of 12 games in 2023, recording 39 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.

Hill has been with the Gators since 2019, appearing in 34 total games (starting in 25 of them). Hill tore his ACL ahead of the 2021 season and was awarded medical redshirt.

Hill was a productive member of the secondary for the Gators and it will likely not take him long to find a new home to finish out his college career.

OL Micah Mazzccua

Florida Gators OL Micah Mazzccua (54) – Mallory Peak/Florida Gators Athletics

Florida Gators starting offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua has entered his name into the transfer portal after just one season with the Gators. Mazzccua transferred to Florida ahead of the 2023 season from Baylor.

Mazzccua started in 11 of 12 games for the Gators. In 2022, Mazzccua started in ten of 11 games for the Baylor Bears. Mazzccua was meant to be the replacement for now Buffalo Bills starting offensive lineman and former consensus All-American O’Cyrus Torrence and he performed well, but clearly wants to find his third home of his college career.

LB Scooby Williams

Florida Gators LB Scooby Williams (17) – Maddie Washburn/Florida Gators Athletics

Linebacker Scooby Williams has officially entered his name into the transfer portal. Williams started in 10 of 12 games this season, recording 53 tackles (which was third best on the season for the Gators), five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, four tackles for loss and a sack.

Williams had to step into a larger role for the Gators defense this season after LB Shemar James went down with a season-ending injury following the Georgia game.

Williams has been with the Gators since he signed in 2021, appearing in 24 total games (starting in 10). Williams was a highly coveted recruit from the state of Alabama.

With Florida signing two high-profile linebacker prospects out of high school in Myles Graham and Aaron Chiles, Williams departing makes sense.

S Miguel Mitchell

Florida Gators safety Miguel Mitchell (10) – John Paternoster/Florida Gators Athletics

Florida Gators starting safety Miguel Mitchell has officially entered his name into the transfer portal.

Mitchel started in eight of 11 games for the Gators in 2023, recording 37 tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception.

Mitchell started opposite of rising freshmen safety Jordan Castell and then lost his starting spot to another star freshman on the rise in safety Bryce Thornton.

CB Jalen Kimber

Florida Gators CB Jalen Kimber (8) – Maddie Washburn/Florida Gators Athletics

Florida Gators starting safety Jalen Kimber has officially entered his name into the transfer portal.

Kimber started in 11 of 12 games for the Gators, recording 23 tackles, five pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Kimber transferred to Florida from Georgia ahead of the 2022 season, where he played through a hand injury.

Now, Kimber will be looking for his third school since signing on to play for the Bulldogs ahead of the 2020 season.

With the addition of Hill, Mazzccua, Williams, Mitchell, and Kimber, the Gators now have 20 players in the transfer portal. The Gators have been actively recruiting players that have entered the portal from other schools. The transfer portal window re-opens from April 15th-30th, so the Gators will likely both lose and add new players during that 15-day period as well.
