The Defiant Takes Football staff put together a three-round mock draft. Here’s a look and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ draft picks in the first three rounds, including some trades. Keep reading for the full three-round mock draft, and continue to scroll down to find out the Staff GMs for each NFL team.
Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Picks
I was a little more aggressive in trading with the Pittsburgh Steelers than I maybe should have been. However, I think the roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers is in pretty good shape, assuming certain pieces pan out. Here’s the rundown of trades I made.
Trade 1: Cardinals receive no. 49 overall, no. 234 overall. Steelers receive no. 96 overall, no. 105 overall, no. 213 overall
Trade 2: Eagles receive no. 80 overall, no. 96 overall. Steelers receive no. 70 overall
Round 1 Pick 17: OT Dawand Jones, Ohio State
My first pick is a little controversial. The position is needed. Kenny Pickett needs protection to be successful. However, many analysts do not like Jones because he is just too big. I get it but I am trusting that the coaching staff of the Pittsburgh Steelers to coach him up. We’ve seen big tackles adapt and make it in the league, and I think Jones can do just fine.
Round 2 Pick 32: DT Mazi Smith, Michigan
This is my favorite pick in the draft. Honestly, any team that gets Smith I am super excited for. Smith is a freak athlete who could easily go in the first round. Nabbing him at the beginning of the second round felt really good. It felt even better knowing that this was the Chase Claypool trade pick. Trading Claypool for Mazi Smith is a trade I would do ten out of ten times. Smith will wreak havoc next to TJ Watt.
Round 3 Pick 70: CB DJ Turner, Michigan
I was going to stay pat with picks 80 and 96, but then I saw Turner still on the board. Cornerback is a huge need for the Pittsburgh Steelers and I hadn’t taken one with my first two picks. Turner is lightning-fast and, while a little undersized, should still be a good corner in the league. Some analysts think he could go in the first round, so getting him in the third round is huge.
