The Chicago Bears have a conundrum with Justin Fields. The Chicago Bears are in an ultimate position of power with the no. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They can have a pick of any player they want including some great quarterback prospects. They can also trade back with many of the quarterback-needy teams and get a massive amount of picks and possibly players. If they do take a quarterback at no. 1, chances are they will trade Justin Fields. Here are 3 potential destinations if the Chicago Bears were to trade Fields.

Chicago Bears: Should They Even Trade Justin Fields?

I want to set this question aside for the purposes of this article. There is a lot of debate on what the Bears should do. Fields showed promise this past season but also continued his struggles in the passing game. Albeit he had one of the worst receiving corps in the league but it is still concerning. However, taking a rookie quarterback comes with no guarantees. Many players have been drafted with a top pick and flamed out in a couple of years i.e. Baker Mayfield and Zach Wilson. For this article, let’s assume the Bears want to trade Fields. Which teams would be most interested?

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons had one of the best rushing attacks last season. This was with Marcus Mariota at quarterback. While Fields is not the most polished passer, he is definitely better than Mariota. Atlanta also has good weapons with Kyle Pitts and Drake London on the team. Fields would bolster an already dominant rushing attack and would give some upside in the passing game. It would also give some more stability to the position as rookie Desmond Ridder did not do much last season. If the Chicago Bears make Fields available, the Falcons should be the first on the phone. With the offense that the Falcons run, this would be a match made in heaven.

New Orleans Saints

Staying in the NFC South, the Saints are the next team that could make a run for Fields. Again, the weapons that New Orleans has are really good. Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, and even Taysom Hill are solid players that would give Fields plenty to work with. The Saints also are desperately trying to upgrade the position while also saving cap space. They cannot afford to take on another expensive contract so having Fields on his rookie deal would be appealing. With Hill, there are also some creative plays that could be drawn up where either Fields or Hill could throw the ball. The Saints seem to always be in the mix anytime a player is available and this situation would be no different.

Washington Commanders

The other two teams are fairly obvious but this one is the most interesting. This is another team that has been in quarterback purgatory. Washington was hoping that Carson Wentz would be the answer but that experiment failed spectacularly. All offseason, the talk has been that Sam Howell is the guy. However, if Fields came available, the Commanders should absolutely give the Bears a call. The offensive weapons are there. Terry McLaurin is a criminally underrated receiver. Curtis Samuel had a nice year and Brian Robinson looks to have the running back spot locked down. The offensive line worries me but Fields would be used to that coming from Chicago. This would be the most intriguing team for me to land Justin Fields.

Ultimately, I’ll bet the Bears keep Fields and trade the first pick. Teams will likely overpay in order to move up to get their guy and the Bears will have no choice but to take the insane offer. It will obviously hurt if Bryce Young or CJ Stroud turn out to be a superstar but the Bears need help across the roster and gaining more draft capital always helps. However, if the Bears do trade Fields and bring in a young quarterback, it will cause a domino effect in the draft as teams will likely be even more aggressive to move up. There will definitely be no shortage of drama in the 2023 NFL Draft.
