BYU Football announces Hans Olsen as the newest addition to the BYU gameday crew as a Radio Analyst. Hans Olsen will replace Riley Nelson, who announced in January that he was moving on. He will join Greg Wrubell on the radio for games that can be heard on BYU radio. Olsen also joins Jason Shepherd, who is a studio host, and Mitchell Juergens, who is in his sixth season as the sideline reporter for BYU football. This comes as BYU begins its inaugural season in the Big 12. This crew will be on the call this Friday as the Cougars host their spring game and the alumni game.

Hans Olsen
Hans Olsen played for BYU and in the NFL as a Lineman. He played for the Cougars from 1996-2000. After his playing time at BYU, he spent seven seasons in the NFL for the Colts. Since he retired from playing football, he has been a radio broadcaster for the past 17 years. Olsen has done a few games over his career and now will help call every game for Cougar football. Olsen has hosted a daily sports radio show in Salt Lake City since 2006. Been on Bowl game coverage teams since 2018. Olsen is the nephew of Merlin Olsen, who is a member of the College football hall of fame and a legendary Utah State defensive lineman.
In the press conference held earlier today, he said, “I’ve always loved what my Uncle Merlin did in the booth, and I had a dream to see what it was like. I’m grateful to Brian Estridge and Bowl Season Radio for giving me the chance to pursue that dream, and I’m beyond thrilled to now work with Greg, Mitch, and Jason to bring my passion for the game to the BYU fans I played for years ago.” This time Olsen won’t suit up for the Cougars on the field but will give Cougar fans a sense of what’s happening on the field on game days.
Greg Wrubell also spoke at the press conference and he was quoted saying, “I’m elated to have Hans Olsen join our broadcast team, and I’m eager to work with him as a commentary partner. I have known Hans since his BYU playing days, and I’ve always enjoyed being around him.
I know our listeners in Cougar Nation will appreciate Hans’ expertise and engaging personality. He is an excellent broadcaster with a passion for BYU football, and I’m sure our audience will value his insights and energetic delivery. I can’t wait to experience the Big 12 football era with him in the booth.” Greg Wrubell has been the voice of the Cougars since 1996, calling men’s basketball, football, women’s soccer, and baseball.
