With (QB) Josh Allen and (WR) Stefon Diggs having their guaranteed contracts restructured on Tuesday, this creates $39 million in cap space for the Buffalo Bills to sign other core players or free agents.

Already losing (LB) Tremaine Edmunds to the Chicago Bears, now is the time to take a look at their remaining roster and decide who on the team they should keep and who they should let go.

Keepers

On Wednesday, (S) Jordan Poyer agreed to a two-year deal, according to NFL network’s Ian Rapoport.

Poyer shortly shopped around for other teams as a free agent but ultimately knew his home belonged in Orchard Park, where he has played for the Bills since 2017. He made 63 tackles (44 individual) four interceptions, eight pass breakups, and one forced fumble across 12 regular season appearances in 2022.

(RB) Devin Singletary may not be the best running back in the NFL, but he is a valuable asset for the team. He brings skill, flash, and motor to the Bills’ spread offense. He is worth keeping at the right price and he is still on his rookie deal. If the Bills do decide to draft another running back, he could be a good mentor to that rookie. He is also good trade bait for some nice value in return.

(WR) Jake Kumerow (Touchdown Jesus) is a sneaky good receiver on the team that does not get into the game often but is a contributor when he does. He has great hands and is probably one of the team’s best practice players. Could they keep him at a low price and maybe try him at kick returner too? As Chris Berman says, “Oh those Bills Special teams.”

(DE) Shaq Lawson is everyone’s favorite nice guy on the team, while being a sack machine. The fun-loving man from Clemson makes a habit of getting to the quarterback in the backfield and earning a small paycheck to do so. Keeping him around is great for the locker room and for the culture of the Bills organization. Watch out everybody, here comes the “Shaq Machine.”

(LB) AJ Klein will have a big role now stepping in for the now-departed Edmunds who earned a hefty payday with the Chicago Bears. Klein is more of a system LB that would not start for other clubs in the NFL. With that being said, he has played well when Matt Milano and Edmunds have been hurt and is a nice piece to keep for the immediate future.

More of a hybrid type, (S) Dean Marlowe is much like Klein, in that he excels in only one specific system and that system has been Coach McDermott’s 4-3 defensive scheme. Marlowe can play both safety and linebacker, but one thing’s clear, he’s great in coverage and can intercept the ball like no other. If they can resign him to a team-friendly one-year-deal, he will be here for as long as the team wants him to be.

(CB) Taron Johnson is an exceptional nickel corner whose great in coverage and is also a hard hitter. His most memorable game is a SNF contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers when he picked off “Big Ben” Roethlisberger’s 101 yards for a touchdown in a 26-15 win at Bills Stadium. He is definitely worth keeping, as he is the third-best corner behind Kaiir Elam and Tre’ White.

Goners

(WR) Jamison Crowder was expected to come in after signing a one-year deal on March 22, 2022.  He was targeted to be the Bills’ next slot receiver to Cole Beasley. He was also poised to be their primary kick returner, but both plans fazed out very quickly. His season was cut short in week four due to an ankle injury and he was placed on Injured Reserve on Oct. 8.

The former Washington Commander draft pick only managed 60 yards on six receptions.
