Rundown
When you think of what an NFL tackle is supposed like, Anton Harrison fits the bill perfectly. Harrison was selected 24th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. At 6’4 315 pounds, he has prototypical size for the position. However, it’s important to note that all 6’4 315 frames are not built the same. For instance, Peter Skoronski, an offensive line prospect that was drafted 11th overall to the Tennessee Titans is 6’4 315 pounds, but has 32 & 1/2 inch arms. That’s well below the conventional threshold hold of 34 inch arms for a tackle. Harrison’s arms measured in at 34 & 1/2 inches at the NFL Combine, comfortably above the 34 inch length that coaches and scouts like to see.
Personally, I don’t think it matters as much as others. Punch timing, placement, & strength mean much more than arm length in my evaluations. There’s also eight examples of All-Pro tackles with sub 33 & 1/2 inch arms in the last 15 years. Nonetheless, it’s a baseline that Anton Harrison meets and it certainly helped his prospect status. He’s also very lean to frame and has a fair amount of muscle tone for an offensive lineman. Again, these are more cosmetic features that don’t necessarily lend to production and results, but we’d be remiss not to acknowledge the criteria set in the past.

Play Style

As for his play style, Harrison is definitely more finesse than power. I’ll go into more detail in the video break down, but it’s one thing that’s apparent when you watch this tape. He’s an exceptional pass blocker, especially when you consider his inconsistency with technique at times. While you’ll see he’s not a very good run blocker at this juncture, I do believe there’s definitely hope that Anton Harrison can improve in that department. All in all, he’s a very solid prospect with a lot of upside. Time will tell if the Jaguars overreached with the pick or teams ahead of them didn’t take him when they had the oppourtunity.

In any event, here’s episode 11 of Brickwall Breakdowns.
