The Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets saga is finally over. After months of speculation, the two sides have finally come to an agreement. Both the Packers and Jets can now go into the NFL draft knowing exactly where they stand in terms of picks and quarterbacks. There is a lot of breakdown with this trade.
Trade compensation, per sources:
Jets get:
?Aaron Rodgers, pick No. 15, a 2023 5th-rd pick (No. 170).Packers get:
?Pick No. 13, a 2023 2nd-rd pick (No. 42), a 6th-rd pick (No. 207), a conditional 2024 2nd-rd pick that becomes a 1st if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays. pic.twitter.com/Q2vUMfyZGH— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 24, 2023
Aaron Rodgers Traded To The New York Jets
The compensation was the hang-up for so long, but it seems that Brian Gutekunst and Joe Douglas finally came to an agreement. Here is how the trade shakes out.
Jets get:
Aaron Rodgers, pick no. 15, 2023 fifth-round pick (no. 170)
Packers get:
Pick no. 13, 2023 second-round pick (no. 42), 2023 sixth-round pick (no. 207), a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of plays.
The teams will swap first-round picks this year. Some day three picks are added in as filler. Then only one future pick is included, which at worst, is a second-round pick. As with any trade, the question is, who won the deal?
Who Won?
Honestly, I think this is a pretty fair deal though I will lean toward the Packers winning for one reason. Playing 65% of snaps is nothing. Rodgers had a broken thumb last year and still played all of the snaps in the season outside of a quarter or so against Philadelphia. If the Jets are looking to go for a Super Bowl, Rodgers will need to play way more than 65% of the snaps. This makes it likely that Green Bay will get an additional first-round pick next year. Moving up two spots in this year’s draft isn’t nothing either. Overall, it seems like a fair trade for both sides.
This is massive to get done before the draft. Both teams needed to know exactly what picks they would have to go into this weekend’s draft. The Packers now own three top-50 picks, and the Jets get stability at the quarterback position.
