Easy Start To The Season For Jordan Love

Love will get to ease into being the starter. Yes, the first two games are on the road against rival Chicago and Atlanta. However, these are not considered to be top-tier opponents. As much as I hate to admit this as a Packers fan, I think Justin Fields is going to be a problem this season. The same cannot be said for the defense. While the offense upgraded through free agency and the draft, the defense basically stayed the same. This will give Love plenty of opportunity to settle in. The Falcons’ defense is also improved, but it still shouldn’t be the toughest test. Then, the team gets the Saints at home. The first three weeks will be manageable for Jordan Love.

Travel Is Manageable

The Packers have two west coast teams on the schedule, the Rams and Chargers, but both of those are home games. The furthest they have to travel is to Las Vegas and to Denver. However, the schedule around that is very kind. The Raiders matchup comes on the heels of a Thursday night tilt against the Detroit Lions. This will give them a mini-bye heading into a Monday night clash. After that week, they are on a bye in week six. They come back in week seven against Denver, but because of the bye, it isn’t as big of a deal. After last year’s London game, this year will see a lot less travel which is a good thing for the team.

Weeks 10-14 Will Show Us A Lot About This Team

This is the toughest stretch, and how the team handles these five weeks will be the difference in whether the Packers can sneak into the playoffs or if they pick in the top ten. Road games against the Steelers, Lions, and Giants will be tough. The Chargers and Chiefs come to Lambeau Field and will be tough matchups as well. If the Packers can find a way to go 3-2 during this stretch, it is a huge win. The early season schedule has a lot of winnable games. This will be the real test of how good this young team can be.

Overall, this schedule is extremely favorable, in my opinion. Maybe I have haunting memories from last year’s schedule that saw the London trip and a week 13 bye week. While this year has two Thursday night tilts and some challenges, it is nothing compared to last year. The good news about this schedule is that it has a lot of 50-50 games. This will give us an idea of exactly what type of quarterback Jordan Love is. If he can rise to the occasion and steal a couple of those games, it will increase the confidence that Love can be the long-term answer. If not, the Green Bay Packers may look for some other answers at the quarterback position beyond 2023.
