The Jordan Love era has begun for the Green Bay Packers. After Aaron Rodgers announced his intentions to go to the New York Jets, fans have been getting prepared for a new era at quarterback for the Packers. While there are still many unknowns about Jordan Love, here are three reasons why he will succeed.
#1: The Green Bay Packers Have Weapons Around Jordan Love
This is not a roster that is void of talent. Aaron Jones is a legit top-5 running back in the NFL. AJ Dillon is a quality second running back. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson are still young but have shown enough promise to be counted as assets to the Green Bay offense. The offensive line is also in the top half of the league and has the potential to be a top-10 unit. The Packers could also add more pieces through free agency or the draft to help the offense.
That is just the offense. The defense has Jaire Alexander, Kenny Clark, and Rashan Gary (when he returns from injury). It stands to reason that Love and the offense will have some short fields due to a big play by the defense. The special teams could also take some pressure off. Keisean Nixon is coming back and has the potential to break one every time he touches the ball. Even if he gives the offense ten extra yards, that could be the difference between points and no points.
#2: Tom Clements Is Back
Last season, the Green Bay Packers hired Tom Clements back as their quarterbacks coach. He has a long history of coaching successful quarterbacks including Brett Favre and Rodgers. Last season, the Packers were clearly nervous about Love’s development. After one season under Clements, they are ready to move on from their hall-of-fame quarterback. While this is not all Clements, he was a big part of the development. Having him back and coaching Jordan Love will be huge as he takes the starter role.
#3: A Weaker NFC
Love and the Packers will benefit from a weaker NFC. While this could be a one-year thing, overall more teams in the NFC are looking at rebuilds rather than going all-in for a Super Bowl run. Go ahead and look up a list of current NFC quarterbacks. It isn’t pretty. After Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott, finding the next best guy is challenging.
Even if Jordan Love is simply average, it will likely lead to the Packers having success. It may not lead to tons of Super Bowl wins, but definitely leads to playoff appearances. 2023 is wide open in the NFC and the Packers have an easier schedule as they get to play the NFC South and get the Chiefs and Chargers at home. This will definitely help Love in his development as a starter.
Even if Jordan Love isn’t great, the Packers are not sunk. If he stinks, the Packers still have young talent on the roster where they can go out and get someone to fill the position via free agency or the draft. If he is great, the Packers have chained together franchise quarterbacks yet again.
