The new NFL year is just about a week away. Now that teams have made the necessary cuts to make cap room, there are some great players that will be looking to join new teams next season. One of those is LB Bud Dupree who was released by the Titans earlier this week. Here are 3 potential landing spots for Bud Dupree.

Potential Landing Spots For Bud Dupree

Dupree was limited during his time in Tennessee mostly because of injuries. However, he did have a 9% pressure rate and 8 sacks despite missing a total of 12 games due to injury. Every team can use more pass rush so he should have no shortage of suitors.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl loss and have a lot of free-agency questions on defense. While the Eagles’ defense was solid last year, the linebacker spot needs some work. Both starting linebackers are free agents along with three key members of the secondary. The Eagles will not be able to keep everyone and could be looking for cheaper veteran help. Dupree would be an immediate upgrade to the defense and would help continue the onslaught of pass rushers the Eagles have at their disposal. Even if the secondary is weaker next season, if the Eagles can get to the quarterback it won’t matter. Philadelphia could also entice Dupree with the opportunity to win a ring.

Yes, the Raiders need to figure out the quarterback position but they need help on defense too. Opposing offenses cut through the defense like warm butter last season and a big reason was the lack of pass rush. It doesn’t matter how great your secondary is. If the quarterback has enough time, someone will get open. The Raiders need to bring in some impact players on defense and Dupree fits the bill. It is a little bit of an awkward fit from a scheme perspective but Dupree’s physicality and athleticism allow him to adapt accordingly.

This is the most intriguing of the potential landing spots for Bud Dupree. This one is a long shot but a reuniting of Dupree with TJ Watt would be awesome. Watt and Dupree were a premier pass-rush duo when they were opposite each other. The Steelers also look to make it back to the postseason with a solid defense and an improved Kenny Pickett. Dupree would already know the system and a lot of the coaches meaning the adjustment period would be limited. For the Steelers, Dupree gives them some Watt insurance if he goes down with an injury. This is probably unlikely but it would be interesting if it happened.

Those are my 3 potential landing spots for Bud Dupree. Ultimately, all teams could use help rushing the passer so any team should be in on the Dupree sweepstakes.
