It was reported yesterday that the Chicago Bears are listening to offers for the no. 1 overall pick. This is not necessarily a surprise as the Bears need help all over the roster. While Justin Fields is not a perfect quarterback, there are so many other holes in the roster that the Bears should be looking for a king’s ransom. Here are 3 obscure teams that could trade for the no. 1 overall pick.
Obscure Teams That Could Trade For No. 1 Overall Pick
What do I mean by obscure teams? The obvious teams are there. The Texans, Colts, Raiders, and Panthers are all teams that could obviously use a young quarterback. They also have the draft capital in order to make the trade. It is not hard to see the Bears accepting a trade offer from the Texans that includes the no. 2 overall pick. These are 3 teams that people may not be talking about as having the potential to trade for the no. 1 overall pick.
Detroit Lions
The Lions own the no. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft thanks to the Matthew Stafford trade with the Rams. They also own their own pick at no. 18 giving them options for a trade package. They could package both picks or trade more future picks while keeping the no. 18 overall pick. While Jared Goff played well last year, I doubt he is the long-term solution for the team. The Lions have the luxury of being able to go forward with Goff in the short term while taking someone for the long term. If Detroit gets Bryce Young or CJ Stroud in the building, they can sit for a year and learn the offense and come in when they are more ready. It would be a risk for the Lions but one that might pay huge dividends.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans own the no. 11 overall pick. This one is a little outside the range that the Bears may want but if Tennessee offers enough else, Chicago may be tempted to take it. What could make the trade package more desirable is the fact that the Titans look to be in a more rebuilding phase meaning the future picks could turn into something good. For the Titans, Ryan Tannehill is not the long-term answer. Malik Willis was benched for Josh Dobbs which does not bode well for his long-term future with the team. If the Titans are in love with a prospect, they could make a god-tier offer and get their guy for the future.
Washington Commanders
This is the most unlikely but also one that makes a lot of sense for the Commanders. They own the no. 16 overall pick in the draft so they would have to send either a lot of future picks or player assets in order to make this trade. However, the Commanders should absolutely poke around to see what it would take. They already have weapons on offense. Terry McLaurin is one of the best receivers in the league that no one talks about. Brian Robinson solidifies the backfield and Curtis Samuel is a legit WR2. The team has been vocal about their support of Sam Howell but he is a complete wild card. If the Commanders want to try and find their quarterback of the future, this could be an opportunity.
The NFL draft should have no shortage of drama with the no. 1 overall pick. These are some obscure teams that could trade for the pick that would shake up the league for years to come.
