There is a lot of optimism surrounding the Miami Dolphins for their 2023 season. In 2022, the Dolphins went to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. That was a huge kick in high gear. With the NFL season approaching quickly, there are some things to consider when questioning Miami’s projected success. For instance, the Dolphins only got four picks in the draft. Then there are the opinions on the sustainability of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, amongst other things. Let’s talk about it.

Return of the Quarterback

Tua Tagovailoa’s 2022 season was undoubtedly one of the most talked about things in the NFL at the time. Two separate concussion-causing incidents put Tagovailoa out of four games. People began to question whether or not Tua was “tough” enough to carry the Dolphins to victory. However, if Tua can stay protected, I do not question his ability to perform. I don’t want to say that Tua will prove himself, mainly because I think Tua has been “proving himself” for a million years now. It’s obvious Tua can play up to par when he’s healthy. Although, that’s a variable that is hard for a Tua fan to rationalize. Just speaking from experience.

Miami Dolphins Make Offseason Moves

Miami traded with the Rams for cornerback Jalen Ramsey in March. Ramsey, the six-season pro bowler, came at the expense of TE Hunter Long.  This seems like a good move for Miami’s defense, along with the addition of DC Vic Fangio. It’s possible that these two moves will be core decisions in Miami’s success. These trades, plus the tampering incident that ripped away Miami’s first pick, left Miami with only four picks. I don’t have a strong opinion of those four picks as of yet, but it will come soon.

Window of Opportunity

Miami has some strong contenders on the schedule. The Cowboys, Ravens, and Bills were all playoff teams in 2022, so those will likely be the ones to watch. That isn’t to say the other matchups will be a breeze, but there are some weeks that feel more comfortable. The Patriots shouldn’t pose too much trouble, and neither should the Panthers. The window of opportunity appears to be the hopeful wins against the Eagles and the Bills. While there are other opportunities for success, these are the ones that grabbed my attention.

State of the Franchise Overall Outlook

Overall, the Dolphins are on the up. That is, if Tua can stay healthy, the defensive line shines through with the new additions, and the Dolphins win the games that shouldn’t be a challenge. I hate to be too optimistic when there is still a lot to see. Though, I feel pretty good about the state of the Miami Dolphins franchise.
