With Bills Mafia still mourning the team’s divisional round exit from the playoffs last season, what better way to lick our wounds than by turning our focus to the upcoming season? The additions of first-round pick TE Dalton Kincaid and notable veterans like Poona Ford and, most recently, Leonard Floyd certainly offer plenty of anticipation for the 2023 season, after all. So let’s forget about the Bengals (until week 9) and tackle the forthcoming season game-by-game.

Week 1: at Jets (MNF)

The Buffalo Bills have been primetime magnets since Josh Allen’s breakout season in 2020, and the squad absolutely shines under the bright lights, so nothing can be more exciting than kicking off the season on Monday night, right? Well, playing the game in Orchard Park would be better, but I still have the Bills penciled in for a win in this one.

The Jets have been building an impressive team and should no longer be overlooked. However, their latest and greatest offseason acquisition, Aaron Rodgers, is likely to need some time to gel with his new crew. I am not expecting a blowout by any means, but I do expect the more seasoned Bills to pull out a win here.

Bills 35 – Jets 31

Week 2: vs Raiders

The Raiders still have Davante Addams and Max Crosby to work with, but Buffalo should be able to handle the now Jimmy G-run silver and black.

Bills 31 – Raiders 21

Week 3: at Commanders

With yet-to-be-proven Sam Howell at the helm, the Commanders feel like a team that has been steadily building for the past few seasons. This is not to say that a team led by Ron Rivera will be an easy game, but the Bills and their record of stringing together early-season wins should make this three in a row.

Bills 28 – Commanders 17

Week 4: vs Dolphins

Mike McDaniel and a healthy Tua have already proven themselves to be a force in the AFC East. The Dolphins split the regular season with Buffalo last year and nearly handed them an even earlier playoff exit in the Wildcard round. I think the same split will happen again this season, but their first meeting should go Buffalo’s way at home.

Bills 27 – Dolphins 24

Week 5: vs Jaguars (London)

Unfortunately for Buffalo, they lost the last game they played in London, and that was way back in 2015. The opponent? The Jacksonville Jaguars. The two will meet once again across the pond this year. With the Jaguars having back-to-back games there, they will be much more comfortable while the Bills try to settle in for this “home game.” Couple that with Doug Pederson and Trevor Lawrence entering his third season, and the Jags will hand Buffalo their first loss of the season.

Bills 17 – Jaguars 28

Week 6: vs Giants (SNF)

Giants HC Brian Daboll – Rich Hundley III/ For The Trentonian

The 2022 coach of the year and former Josh Allen whisperer, Brian Daboll, will waltz into Orchard Park, ready to handle the Bills. Sadly for him, I see Buffalo up for the fight and ready to send the Giants back to Jersey with a loss.

Bills 24 – Giants 21

Week 7: at Patriots

Bill Belichick may very well be the best coach in NFL history, or at least he has the hardware to say he is, but the truth is that the Patriots have been struggling to find their footing since the Brady days. The Bills should turn their first meeting of the year into a blowout.

Bills 38 – Patriots 19

Week 8: vs Buccaneers (TNF)

Speaking of Tom Brady, he’s not in Tampa Bay anymore either, and exactly how Baker Mayfield is going to run this offense is difficult to foresee. This could easily be a trap game of sorts for Buffalo, but logic tells me they get the W.

Bills 24 – Buccaneers 17

Week 9: at Bengals (SNF)

Bengals Defense – Jeff Dean/Associated Press

The last time these two teams met in Cincinnati will live in the annals of NFL history forever. I think returning to that field will be an emotionally charged event for the Bills, and perhaps it’s too much to handle. While we should get a much more competitive game than their most recent meeting in the divisional round last season, the outcome will be the same.

Bills 25 – Bengals 28

Week 10: vs Broncos (MNF)

The Broncos really could go either way this year, and Sean Payton and Russell Wilson should have their kinks, if any, worked out by week 10. However, with Buffalo reeling from a loss to the Bengals the week before, they will prove to be a little too much for Broncos country. Let’s ride.

Bills 31 – Broncos 24

Week 11: vs Jets

Unlike their regular season split in 2022, Buffalo will sweep the Jets this year. Rodgers may very well be firing on all cylinders by week 11, but I see a late win off the leg of the recently extended Tyler Bass.

Bills 27 – Jets 24

Week 12: at Eagles

Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and probably the best offensive line in the league are all going to stretch this Bills’ defense thinner than they’d like. This game, which could easily go into OT, will be a hard-fought match between two super bowl contenders. Unfortunately for Buffalo, they will likely have to accept their third defeat of the year.

Bills 31 – Eagles 35

Week 13: Bye

Finally!

Week 14: at Chiefs

Chiefs Defense – Denny Medley/USA Today Sports

After some much-needed rest, the Bills travel to Arrowhead. While the Chiefs have had Buffalo’s number in the postseason the last two times they met there, the same can’t be said for the regular season. I look for a refreshed Bills team to get the best of Mahomes and Kelce again this year.

Buffalo 35 – Chiefs 28

Week 15: vs Cowboys

Stephon Diggs will likely be paired up against his little brother in another tough game, but I expect this one to be won in the trenches. Containing Micah Parsons is no easy feat, but the Bills get the job done.

Bills 24 – Cowboys 19

Week 16: at Chargers (Saturday)

Justin Herbert and company will welcome Buffalo into their house in week 16, and the well-oiled Chargers are certainly going to give them all they can take. Nevertheless, I think the Bills’ pass rush makes this a long day for the Bolts as they pull out the win.

Bills 31 – Chargers 21

Week 17: vs Patriots

Patriots QB Mac Jones (10) – Winslow Townson/Getty Images

For the second sweep of the season, Buffalo should be able to take out the Pats for the fifth consecutive time in three seasons, affirming their dominance in the AFC East.

Bills 24 – Patriots 14

Week 18: at Dolphins (TBD)

With a playoff berth already clinched, the Bills will still look to give the Dolphins a fight. While there won’t be any sweltering heat in Miami in January, the Bills are going to struggle in this one anyway and, unfortunately, exit the regular season with a loss to a Dolphins team that could be scratching and clawing for a wildcard spot.

Bills 17 – Dolphins 25

On to the Playoffs!

Sitting with a highly respectable, hard-fought, and well-earned 13-4 record, both their week 9 loss to the Bengals and their week 14 win over the Chiefs could play a major role in seeding again. Whether at home or on the road, however, Buffalo will be poised to make yet another run at the Lombardi when all is said and done.
